Okay, we’re doing a few new things on the newsletter this week. Yes, we have a live show next week, reviewing The Breakfast Club on April 16th — but you knew that. (Last tickets remaining are here!)
This idea is from Kev from Portugal: What will Styles call Emilio Estevez during the BOOM? Mighty Ducks? Outsiders? Repo Man? Let us know in the comments — my bet is on Young Guns.
On Monday we released our episode on Super Fly, the 1972 classic Blaxploitation flick with Ron O’Neil kicking ass, flipping bricks, hitting sheets and slowly — verrry slowly — rounding Harlem’s corners. Let’s do something new: I want to know what you thought of the movie:
My favorite moment from the episode was when Eric asked whether, in a fight, it’s better to have heart or technique — Sheek and Styles' response is an all-timer (talking about a very hypothetical situation about someone they may or may not know) on top of Kiss’ church-singing “AMENNNN” to get out of it. Also, we learned that crack is vegan! Who knew.
If we record 80 minutes for an episode, there’s probably 10 minutes that don’t make the final cut — just to keep things tight. My favorite question that we cut for this episode was, I asked if any of the guys had ever gone through “a fedora era.” (I was trying to connect it to the fashion of the movie, but when Kiss immediately got mad at the question, my best example of current fedoras was the Reasonable Doubt cover art. Meanwhile, I should’ve gone with Ne-Yo or Future.) I also 10000% believe Johan wore fedoras at one point.
Anyway, here’s a quick Photoshop, using photos from 2006 — Ne-Yo’s peak fedora era:

All Ne-Yo’s hats, btw, for the real Ne-Yo heads.
Another new feature for the newsletter!
Sheek: (READY OR NOT 2) last night in the movies 🍿 it picked up right away from the first one.. which was kinda cool , same kind of gory energy / blood 🩸 … overall 4 RICHIE THUMBS 👍🏿 👍🏿 👍🏿 👍🏿 😩😩😩
Eric: I watched The Education of Sonny Carson on YouTube and the New York Mets on SNY - both started off rocky, both get points for stepping up when times were looking tough, both showed grit and determination when they were a man down and ultimately both left me invested in what happens next.
Styles: Dinosaurs series on Netflix .. was pretty cool
Jadakiss: Rupert murdock doc on netflix 🤦🏾♂️
Jeff: My current favorite TikTok series is by this guy DJ Ross One who posts old NYC club flyers and promo items from the 70s, 80s and 90s, and gets into the lore of all these parties he wishes he was at. Also he’s on IG too.
I got an email from LA who said, “Gentleman - I think you underestimate your fan base. The ladies love the showcast and want merch too. Today I went to order a t-shirt and they’re really nice but we’d like some ladies style merch too.” Everything on our site is unisex — but! — I just put up some more ladies-friendly options including a crop top!
Eric and I did a live Q&A this week for an hour and a half on YouTube!!! It was nice answering so many of your questions — the most awkward moments on the show, what our eating schedule is like on film days, how long it takes to do our AKAs, why we try not to review TV shows, what advice we’d give to up-and-comers…and everything else people threw at us. Maybe we’ll do more of these!
This week: Superfly (Styles) — on Amazon Prime or Apple to rent or Hoopla for free.
Next week: Out of Sight (Eric) feat. Jae’won — on Amazon Prime or Apple to rent.
April 16: OUR LIVE SHOW: The Breakfast Club — on Amazon streaming.
April 20: Pineapple Express (Sheek) — on Netflix.
April 27: Jada’s pick TBD.
That’s about it for this week — we’re ONE week away from the live show and gearing up for that. Buy your tickets here! As always, you can also find us on YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Instagram, TikTok and right here, for our weekly newsletter.
We’ve never had more submissions to our Movie Suggestion Doc than this past week — so many that I couldn’t even fit them all into one screenshot. So, here’s the most recent 20. There’s too many to give my opinion on, but — continue to send them in!
