Tater Tots or French Fries?

There a lot of things to glean from Napleon Dynamite, the generational movie about a liger-drawing, bo staff wielding, boogie-oogie-oogieing mouthbreather from Idaho and his weird town of misfits. We could (and did) talk about Kip and Lafawnduh, whether Pedro’s cousins were the most G and whether we’d want to hop in Uncle Rico’s time machine. But there was one question that loomed large over every other one.

Napoleon is sitting in class when that asshole Randy asks for some of Napoleon’s tater tots. When Napoleon refuses to share, Randy kicks our hero in the leg, smashing the tots. Fucking asshole, Randy.

So, I have to ask, which is better: tater tots or french fries?

Hey, don’t just sit there, join the conversation!

This question, of course, led to Johan jumping in and saying that french fries are harder to make than tater tots. (Wrong.) And then Eric asked if Johan didn’t have a freezer in his home. And then Sheek said he would never have Johan’s rice and asked if he was Dominican. (Wrong.)

I can’t tell if we’re curing the world of racism on our showcast or giving racism more opportunities to exist.

Because I’ve had some GREAT run-ins this week, here are my top 3:

3. I had to go to the grocery store at 11pm, last Tuesday night. I looked in the mirror and thought, no one’s gonna see me, I don’t have to look good. Stepped outside and immediately someone said, “Yo! What’s your AKA today?”

4. (It’s really 2, but it won’t let me number downward.) I was running to meet Mayo yesterday and saw a whole bunch of Orthodox Jews waiting on the sidewalk, asking people if they’re Jewish. I always avoid them, but one guy clocked me and started walking towards me. AT THE SAME TIME, a fan of the showcast recognized me, saving me in the process!… though he thought the name was 2 Hebrews and 3 Black Dudes. (He did bring up that Eric went to film school, for what it’s worth.)

5. Just now, an NYC garbage truck pulled to a stop and the guy hopped out. Big smile on his face. “Fuck you, Jeff!”

I changed my pick, what can I say? I felt like Warriors is a good October movie, it always reminds me of Halloween for whatever reason.

This past week, a bunch of you hit the Stack with movies:

You know, I really want to do Midsommar. I think it’d be so good. I chickened out this round, though. I’ve never seen District 9 or Poltergeist. Silence of the Lambs would be great. I thought Project Hail Mary was fine (it’s an 80s movie, today), but it didn’t do anything for me.

Also, is anyone on Letterboxd? I’m trying to get the whole crew on there. I’m @itstherealjeff on there, for what it’s worth.
