First things first: make sure you get tickets to our show in Brooklyn on 12/22 at The Bell House. The link is here.
Next week, we’ll announce what movie we’re watching! The only hint I will give is that it’s a movie from the 80s.
Secondly: Next Friday night, Nov. 21st, if you’re in NYC, we’re going to do a pop-up at Styles’ dispensary — 3547 Broadway, New York, NY 10031 — where you can come say hi, buy limited merch (our logo + Pumpkleta hoodies), smoke/not smoke, hang out. Drop in for a sec or stay for a while. Movies will be on, some of 2J3BD will be there at any one time. Just don’t be too loud rattling off your AKAs, because some stoners might be trying to watch the movie.
Here’s the deal: we’re going to do this in 3 blocks, so that it doesn’t get too crowded.
[1] Nov. 21, 4-5:45pm: The Nutty Professor
[2] Nov. 21, 6-8:15pm: Terminator 2
[3] Nov. 21, 8:30-10pm: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Respond to this email with your preferred slot(s), and I’ll respond with confirmation. Looking forward to seeing you there!
85% accurate picture of me, waiting for your emails. When there was no wi-fi on the boat for four days, Jada compared me to a heroin fiend; he said I was staring at a blank page, refreshing nothing.
There’s been a few times we’ve talked on the show about Styles’ music tastes, most famously in our ChadGPT segment. ChatGPT (a decent but flawed search engine with powers it doesn’t deserve) predicted that Styles’ gym playlist would be filled with The LOX, Griselda and MOP.
Styles — appalled — gave a small preview of his cardio soundtrack, which I’m happy to provide in full today:
Styles’ playlist:
Billy Idol — Rebel Yell
Aerosmith — Janie’s Got a Gun
Bon Jovi — Wanted Dead or Alive
John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band — On the Dark Side
Phil Collins — In the Air Tonight
The Lumineers — Ho Hey
Tears for Fears — Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Fleetwood Mac — Dreams
Queen — Another One Bites the Dust
Talking Heads — This Must Be the Place
A Flock of Seagulls — I Ran (So Far Away)
Simple Minds — Don’t You (Forget About Me)
Christopher Cross — Ride Like the Wind
If you’re so moved and have Apple Music, you can listen to his playlist here.
No one requested it, especially not Styles, but *cracks knuckles* if I were to add some more vaguely coked-out selects from the early 80s, I’d remove the Lumineers (which…my mind truly refuses to accept Styles listening to) and add:
The Go-Gos — We Got the Beat
Donnie Iris — Do You Compute?
Gary Numan — Cars
Corey Hart — Sunglasses at Night
Elizabeth Daily — Shake It Up
Ian Gomm — Here It Comes Again
Bruce Springsteen — Prove It All Night
Blue Oyster Cult — I’m Burning for You
Rick Springfield — Don’t Talk to Strangers
Loverboy — Turn Me Loose
The Cars — Moving in Stereo
Patrick Simmons — So Wrong
Blondie — Dreaming
Prism — Don’t Let Him Know
And to satisfy Sheek Louch and stay on theme, here’s M.O.P. sampling Tears for Fears.
I have no idea if this works as a playlist or how it is to work out to, but The Go-Gos snorted everything in sight and that has to be helpful when throwing weights around. Let me know if my additions make you stronger and/or addicted to coke.
This week’s episode is Rambo, and like I said in last week’s newsletter, it’s maybe the funniest one we’ve ever done. Like, you’ve got the argument over the best action hero, which lasted 90 minutes after (!) we stopped recording — I’ve never seen Styles so mad. And Sheek was going for hall of fame numbers, between reciting the Boy Scout pledge and talking about how Rambo was a liability. “What’re we gonna do now, Rambo?”
Next week’s episode is House Party, recorded on the Rock the Bells cruise. (Check this for more of our time on the boat.) Eric’s editing the show right now, but if I remember correctly, there’s a lot to look out for. You’ve got Sheek talking about his dancing and haircut in high school; you’ve got Tom Cruise & Billy Ocean, my new game show. Rosenthal, Rosenthal & P, written by Eric, kills. Karate Man really went off, too. And the Q&A is fun — Styles sings, I sing; Jada definitely wanted to sing but he’d lost his voice (which doesn’t sound too far off from his regular raspiness tbh).
There are people who say, “NO SPOILERS,” and to them I say, this is a newsletter, you have the ability to skip ahead! Teach yourself restraint, Karate Man isn’t the only one who can have that within him.
My pick is coming up, after Jada’s which is after Sheek’s. (We just recorded Planes, Trains & Automobiles for Eric.) I have an idea of what I want to do, but you might change my mind depending on how this poll goes.
Thank you forever, see you on Nov. 21 in Harlem and Dec. 22 in Brooklyn!
