Last week, we told you there’d be surprises for our first live show, October 10th! But first!
Why bother reading further? RSVP here!
Not only do you get the live episode. Not only are we working on merch for people to get their hands on. Not only will Johan and Johan’s hair be there. But: you can get your first taste of Pumpkleta. That’s right, it started off as a joke, but we have made Uptown Paco’s Pumpkleta — a full-bodied pumpkin ale — into a real product, which you can only buy at our Bronx Brewery show.

And! There’ll be vegan pumpkin empanadas made by Empanology (along with - in Styles’ words - ‘regular food for regular people’). And you can RSVP right here! I should probably say RSVP doesn’t guarantee entry, get there early, etc.
Okay, let’s say that you don’t live in the NYC area, and you’re thinking, “Good for you, you have a show that I can’t get to — the world doesn’t need more newsletters offering me things I can’t participate in.”
Well. Sometimes good things do happen to good people. The good people in this case is you, you personally, you reading this sentence right now.
The LOX are currently flying back from London. With my bosses out of the country, I can do whatever I want: stay up late, eat ice cream for breakfast and - in this case - unilaterally call for a fan-picked episode, to be aired after the live taping!
The best way to do this, I think, is to ask a few basic questions, before opening the floodgates…so at least it’s sorta focused. I’m gonna leave these polls open for 3 days.
And then we can further narrow down what we’ll be talking about, next week. The perks of belonging to this newsletter!
Today’s episode (Styles’ choice) is about the movie F1, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris — it’s available to rent on Apple, Amazon and elsewhere!
F1 is the story of many things: what it means to age, how it feels to deal with competition within your ranks and — most importantly — there’s just a focus on racing and cars. I didn’t get a chance to tell this on the show today, but this is probably my most memorable car story:
I haven’t really driven since high school, mostly because I’ve lived in cities for 20 years; there’s been no need. If ever, Eric likes driving and I’m better than GPS.
But in 2006, while on college break, my friends and I all went out to a club in Westchester. My friend Shin asked I drive his car, since I don’t drink. Sure, no problem.
At the end of the night, we head out to the four cars directly outside. They’re all in a row under streetlights, with Shin’s car being the last one. Shin and Liza would be with me, we pile in and I start following the others.
I should mention it was a full moon.
I drive maybe 30 seconds before lights pop up behind me. I pull over, letting the cop pass. Nope. He’s on me. Shin and Liza, 85 drinks in, are freaking the fuck out, they’re yelling a million instructions at me, probably fucking with me. I lower the window.
“Do you know why I pulled you over?” And I have no idea. Wasn’t speeding, wasn’t swerving, wasn’t listening to Still Tippin. “No.” “Where are you coming from?” “Globe.” “What were you doing there?”
I gave the only answer I could:
A mumbled: “…dancing.”
The cop took a beat. He just stared at me.
“Step out of the vehicle.”
I open the door, now my friends are freaking out for real.
I walk to the back, and the cop could immediately tell I wasn’t impaired at all. He said my lights weren’t on — which, I didn’t notice because it was bright under the streetlights and full moon. Anyway, he let me off and I got us home and our friends have made fun of me ever since.
Also, when I eventually tell this story on the show, The LOX will say, “…that’s it?” and then make fun of me, mercilessly, for like, 5 elements of this story.
Want to watch the premiere of our episode along with us? It’ll be streaming on YouTube.com/itsthereal at 10am ET/7am PT. Make sure to like! Share, baby! Subscribe — and all that!
Next week is Eric’s pick, and he chose The Departed (currently on Netflix). After that, the ball goes to Sheek and then Jada. Then me and then whatever choice we made above!
As always, all our episodes are available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple and wherever else people get their 2J3BD! Follow us on IG and TikTok, too.
Also, feel free to suggest movies for us to review here! We’ve been doing a better job at shouting out the people making suggestions!
See you next week!
