Boy oh boy, do we have something exciting in store for you today. Late last night, in an exclusive interview you can only get from this newsletter, Sheek Louch of 2J3BD was generous enough to give us a few minutes of his time, getting on the phone with 2J3BD’s crack newsletter team to talk about his experience seeing Primate in theatres.
Wikipedia says Primate is the story of a tropical vacation goes awry when Ben, a family's adopted chimpanzee, is bitten by a rabid animal and suddenly becomes violent. Cue Styles P voice: BOOM.
2J3BD: What can you tell us about Primate without giving away spoilers?
SHEEK LOUCH: It was this awesome chimpanzee that was truly misunderstood, right? And I didn’t like the way that people treated him. He had to protect himself!
How many people were in the theatre with you?
Oh, it was packed. It was packed, believe it or not. I went on a Tuesday afternoon. I actually caught a 5 o’clock movie. I caught a 5' o’clock movie, I was out of there at 8.
You went alone?
Me and my wife. I buy four seats — three seats at the least, so no one’s around us and shit.
Have you ever gone with four people to take up all the seats?
(laughs) Yeah, of course I have. More than four! Usually it’s just me and my wife, though.
Did people still recognize you?
In the movies, it’s dark, but where you get the popcorn and all that shit, yea. But they keep it cool. They’re usually there with somebody or their kids, so it’s just “Yo, what up, Sheek.” You know, shit like that. You know, we go to the theatre at [REDACTED].
Sheek, don’t tell people where you go to the movies.
Wait, this is live?
No, this is for the newsletter.
Fire.
How early do you show up? Are you invested in trailers?
Nah, man, nah. Eh…not really. I used to really be into seeing what was coming out next and all that shit but I go so often, I see all the trailers, I see them a lot. Over and over. I go every Tuesday.
Oh, because it’s half-off?
Oh yea! You know! I think it’s $5 or $7 or some shit. We get our four seats and we chill. We watch anything, I let her pick shit, I pick shit. Whatever. You guys don’t notice every time I’m like, “Yo, I just seen Running Man.” “I just seen this and that.”
I know! I pay attention! I just didn’t know it was every Tuesday. Did your wife like Primate?
She said it was cool, she said she’d give it 7 Richie Thumbs.
(laughs)
She gave it 7 and shit, yea. (laughs) I be asking her and shit, how many thumbs? But listen, I’m telling you, when y’all go see it, don’t go with this Academy Award shit. Go to laugh and bug out! The fuck! That’s where you go wrong, you’re not enjoying shit.
(laughs) You’re right, you’re right, fuck.
Damn, man.
Have you ever left a movie in the middle of the movie?
Yea. When I was younger, I was like this shit is wack. Definitely. There’s a bunch that I didn’t like. I didn’t like the last Crow movie. The last Crow I was ready to walk out, when they remade it.
Where’s the best place to sit in the movie theatre? Middle-middle? Aisle? Back?
Well, I don’t know for nobody else but I go to the top, right or left corner. All the way up at the top. And I take four seats. I’m all the way at the end, the aisle seat.
Do you go to the bathroom beforehand?
I try to. I try to go to the bathroom every time beforehand. Cause I don’t feel like coming back down, you feel me?
SHEEK LOUCH: Let me tell you a trick what I do: I get my popcorn, I tell the guy “fill it halfway.” Then I go over there, right? I put all that butter and all that shit on it. And I come back. He puts the rest of the popcorn in.
Smart man.
You feel what I’m saying? Word up!
Do you get mad at people who are on their phones?
Nah, I hate when they talk too-too loud. Nahmean? But not really. You’re saying when they’re texting and the light is bright and all that shit? Not really. Plus, I’m all the way up top, I’m not really…I can’t see what you’re doing on the row under me.
That’s like a metaphor for your life.
Yeah, yeah, true indeed. I don’t know what these little dudes are doing under me. Behind me on the flight and all that shit.
If we all went together to the movies, who would you most be excited to watch Primate with?
Uh…you guys are gonna be too serious. Probably Styles. Man, probably Styles AND Kiss.
Damn, BOTH of them???
Aight, just Styles. Styles would take it for what it’s worth. “Yo, this fucking monkey is crazy!” You know what I mean?? He’s just misunderstood, leave him alone! I wanted the chimp to win!
After watching this movie, what do people get most wrong about primates in general?
Everything ain’t supposed to be a pet. I think that’s the biggest thing. We domesticating all these, man. Everything ain’t supposed to be a pet, man. Word up. And just like that: your face is ripped off. You know it was on the news where a chimp ripped some lady’s face off — you know that, right? Years ago.
Yeah, not great!
You don’t even know what I’m talking about!
(laughs) I do know what you’re talking about.
Ripped her fucking face off! On some real shit, on the news. Hell yea.
I know, it happens!
And the lions and shit that ripped that dude’s face off, Siegfried and Roy.
(PS: Rashida Jones once told Desus & Mero about getting attacked by Bubbles, Michael Jackson’s monkey. OK, back to the convo.)
I was always worried about Jane Goodall.
Who was that?
She was the lady that used to camp out with the gorillas in the mist and chimps and stuff in Africa.
Did they get her?
No, she lived a very long life.
Oh. Okay. Shit.
SHEEK LOUCH: But yea, that’s the one thing people should take from this: everything ain’t your dog.
Not everyone’s your dog.
Not everyone’s your dog, bro.
Is Mox a good movie theatre guy?
Nah. He ain’t been to the movies since his dad took him when he was like 7. Man, I’m probably the last one of you guys to like the cinema. I enjoy the cinema. You guys go to the movies, I go to the cinema! I watch shit and bug out and laugh. Everybody watches it in their house now.
We should go together.
I would love to.
We’ll take the extra two seats.
(laughs) Yeah, yeah, I got the extra two for you guys, word up!
My last question is, was there anything you saw a trailer for that you’re excited for?
Yeah…it’s not a serious movie. Jason Statham has a new movie out, Shelter, he’s doing his basic Jason shit. I wanna see Greenland, that looks good.
Greenland 2, right?
Yea. Part 1 was good. Did you like that?
I didn’t know it existed until I saw the second one’s coming out.
Part 1 was dope. Of course it’s the end of the Earth type shit. I think it’s out already.
Do you think we should invade Greenland?
The actual Greenland? (laughs) “Yeah, why not?!”
Hey man, you voted for him!
Shit! (laughs) Word up!
Make sure to watch and/or listen to our latest episode — No Country for Old Men — which is wherever you find 2J3BD. People have really enjoyed Styles and Sheek’s response to Mayor Mamdani shouting out Kiss, as well as Eric dropping knowledge on the ending. And Wood has gotten universal praise across the board: his AKA, his insights, his talk about what to do with the bricks, everything. The perfect guest!
The thing that made me laugh hardest was when - after Wood said, “There’s no honor in thieves” - Jada responded by saying those were jewels from Canal Street.
If you’re looking for the actual movie, you can find it on Pluto (for free but only en español with English subtitles) or it’s on Hulu/Paramount.
And for next week’s episode, we have the Mel Gibson-backed epic that Styles and Sheek have been looking forward to since we started this showcast: Apocalypto! Yes, it’s entirely in ancient Mayan dialect, but there are subtitles — and it is on Tubi, Pluto and Roku (for free), as well as Amazon for rent. I don’t feel like putting the links in, but use your imagination.
Also someone copped the Black AF History: The Un-Whitewashed Story of America book by Michael Harriot, because Kiss said he’s reading it. Maybe we are starting a book club?
Also, also, also:
VERY IMPORTANTLY: we’re doing a pop-up on January 22nd from 6-10pm at Styles’ dispensary, Strains for Life on 145th and Broadway. We’re calling it the XL Pop-Up because we have a few hoodies left over from our live show but it’s (almost) all XL sizes. (Sorry to all the mediums out there, we’ll do better in the future.)
You can come, hang out, we’ll have the XL hoodies. Styles will be there, we’ll be there, maybe Sheek and Jada might stop by. Come kick it and have fun. We’ll throw on some movies like last time, it’ll be a #vibe.
Space is limited.
As always, you can find us on YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Instagram, TikTok and right here, for our weekly newsletter. Also, here’s our merch shop!
Feel free to suggest movies for us to review here! People hit us every day for us to review movies, and the only way for them not to be lost is in the Google form, linked right there.
How about — for something new, and because Margalit from Boston did it last week — this time, send in possible scenes we could recreate for Is Jadakiss Italian?

I remember the story of the lady that got her face ripped off. It was back in 2009 in CT. Wasn’t even her chimp it was her friend. Crazy !
Great interview. I’m catching some heat for justifying a trip to see Primate, but Ben the chimp honestly sounds incredibleble.
