For this week’s PSN newsletter, we’ve got Kay Rosewood! You may have thought, “I see him on the couch next to Eric in The Departed and No Country episodes, but like, I want to know more about Wood.” Well, I’ve got you covered! It’s a quick convo but a good one. We talk about his love of anime, his not-love of Paid in Full and — in a moment that made me laugh more than any convo I’ve had thusfar — you get the image of him fanning out on an actor from a TV show. Get ready, you won’t have any spoilers up top.
How do you know The LOX, for people who are reading this?
I’ve known The LOX for years, I went to school with them. Went on tour with them. That’s about it — I mean, we grew up with each other, straight up. Same neighborhood, same school.
Who was your first friend of all of them?
Probably Kiss. I think it was Kiss, then Sheek second and then Styles. Me and Kiss went to Catholic school together in third grade.
What’s a movie that you’d love us to cover on the showcast?
Mmm. That’s a good one. Damn. I could say Heat — yea. Cause I can keep watching that shit over and over. And I saw it in the theaters, too. They had good views, good morals — they could’ve been friends on another planet. I like the plot, I like the action, everything on that movie.
What got you into anime?
Actually, my sister! I used to come home — shit, this was a long time, too. A little after I got out of school, my sister used to be on her computer watching One Piece and Naruto and shit like that. I used to be like, “What are you watching??” She’d tell me to come sit down, I started going from there. I think she got it from just being on her computer, bored and shit. I never really asked her how she got into it.
Do you go with subtitles or overdub?
Both. Most of my shits are in Japanese, so I’m just reading the shits.
Have you learned any Japanese through it?
Yo, you know what’s crazy? My sister and I know mad words in Japanese now but it don’t mean nothing yet.
Have you been to Japan?
Working on it. Set Free’s trying to get me to go over there when he goes. So, I’m really working on it.
What’s a great bad movie?
Paid in Full. That’s a great bad movie. I put that on the list. They didn’t tell the tale how it’s really supposed to be. It’s only a movie but they could’ve did a little better.
It is only a movie but it’s not, because it’s based off a true story.
Yea. And they made it like a pillar in hip-hop or whatever it is, and it’s not right to me, I don’t think.
Is it that the actual story is more interesting than the movie? Cause when I heard about the McDonald’s stuff…that was the most heartbreaking thing, and I don’t know that you can capture that in the same way.
Right. Exactly.
What’s a movie you used to watch on VHS?
Shit! That’s a long time. Half-Baked.
Is that your favorite stoner movie?
Definitely. That, and then How High second. Chappelle, Jim Breuer, that cast is funny together.
What was your experience like while shooting Honey?
It was great! Shit, I wish I had a speaking part in it, though!
(laughs) I wish that too, for you! I do. I asked Sheek and Kiss the other day if they kept anything from the set. Did you?
No. Actually, I kept some weed and got arrested at the airport after shooting that movie, that’s what I kept! (laughs) That was a good experience and a bad experience. I got to get in the movie and then I got arrested and kicked out Canada the next day.
How was the time in Toronto otherwise?
Oh, it was great! It was perfect. The party scene was jumping, I love Toronto even though I can’t go back. I think I gotta pay now — I gotta see how much they wanna charge me.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with an actor?
Shit. I can’t remember his name — everyone thought I was crazy. Kiss, P, all them thought I was nuts. The vampire guy — the one with the dark hair. What the fuck is his name? But I seen him one day, we was getting something to eat and I was bugging! I hopped out the car and he was just chilling, regular clothes and I’m telling them like, “Yo! You know who that is???” They looking at me like I had three heads!!! I’ve met a few actors before but it was shocking seeing him.
(Very long process of trying to figure out who Wood is talking about, whether he means Twilight — so I’m sending him pictures of Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, various other actors until he mentions he’s talking about the show Vampire Diaries.)
Fuck.
Okay, but you were watching Vampire Diaries as like, a fan. 8 seasons, all in.
That’s a fact. Me and my sister. I was the only weirdo that watched shit like that. (laughs) That’s what I’m saying! I watch that type of crazy shit.
What makes you think…why doesn’t Kiss watch that?
Kiss doesn’t watch sci-fi, supernatural shit. He’s more like documentaries, sports, movies.
Is it this guy?
Alright, now you’re getting somewhere. The guy who plays his brother on the show.
Okay, this guy? Damon?
Yup! Damon. Yup. That’s his name. Damon. I seen him. I gave him a handshake, kept it moving. They all thought I was crazy, though.
You were — no offense — the oldest fan he’s ever had.
This guy? Oh yea? He’s a young-crowd guy?
Vampire Diaries was for teens on the WB.
(laughs) I know. It’s my sister’s fault — I know.
What’s a popular movie that you’ve never seen?
Ah, shit. Shit. I don’t even know. I think I’ve probably seen just about a lot of everything.
Jada’s never seen Star Wars.
I’ve seen that.
I haven’t seen Gone with the Wind…
Oh, nah, I haven’t seen none of that shit. That could be mine, too.
Here’s what I know about it: I know it’s long, I know it’s old and I know Sheek loved it.
Word? Sheek? Gone with the Wind? Yea, he’s different. (laughs)
He said he woke up at 8 and put it on, watched it until noon.
Damn, it’s that long?? Oh nah, I can’t do it. Especially if it’s not that much action.
Are you not into long movies in general?
Nah, I can do them, but it’s gotta have a lot of action and the plot has to be real good. It has to keep me there. One of them plots where you’re like, “Oh shit, I’ve gotta keep my eyes open all the way til the end, I might miss something.
Would you rather stream than go out?
No, I actually like the movies better. But I can just see it in my house, just chill and smoke. But sometimes I like that big screen.
Just means you need to get a bigger screen in your house.
(laughs) Well…shit. (laughs)
That’s it for this edition! Should I talk to Phonte, Peter Rosenberg, Freeway or Jadakiss for next week?
